WARNING: SCAM ALERT
Important information for all FIATA World Congress 2019 participants

Please be aware that you may be contacted by phone or email by third party companies that act as travel agencies to solicit you with aggressive or deceptive tactics for hotel bookings.

These unauthorised agents, also known as “room poachers” and “room pirates”, may also misrepresent themselves as the official FIATA World Congress 2019 housing bureau and may even illegally use the Congress name or logo, but these agents are neither related nor affiliated with the FIATA World Congress 2019, its hosts, or organisers in any way.

Please be aware that this can be a “phishing” scam designed to obtain your credit card information so you should use extreme caution if you are contacted.

We strongly recommend that you do NOT give any information – not your credit card number, your personal information, or any details about your hotel reservation. You may incur credit card charges, service fees, hotel cancellation fees, or even lose your legitimate hotel booking.

Please also note that the FIATA 2019 Congress Organiser (African Agenda) will not call you to solicit hotel bookings. You may receive emails regarding hotel bookings, but these will come from the Congress domain “@fiata2019.org” or the Organiser’s domain “@africanagenda.com”. Hotel booking confirmations will be sent from [email protected].

If you choose to make a hotel booking for the FIATA World Congress 2019, you should only use the links provided on the Congress website, or by emailing or calling the Congress Organiser. TRAVEL

TRAVEL ADVICE

Travel regulations are known to change without notice to the public. We recommend that you check the current regulations with the South African Consulate in your home country before you travel. A list of South African Consulates around the world can be found here.

Paperwork needed to enter South Africa

  • An acceptable passport or travel document valid for your intended stay.
  • At least two blank pages in your passport for endorsements.
  • A valid visa, if required. See list of countries exempt from South African visas here.
  • Sufficient funds to pay for your day-to-day expenses during your stay.
  • A return or onward ticket.
  • Yellow fever certificates if your journey starts or entails passing through the fever belt of Africa or South America.

Visas

See list of countries exempt from South African visas here. Many visitors to South Africa require a visa in order to enter the country. You cannot apply for a visa upon arrival. If you will require a visa to visit South Africa, be sure to allow plenty of time for the application process before your departure date. For more information regarding South African visa requirements and for details on how to apply for a South African visa please see here.

If you need to visit a South African Consulate in your home country in order to apply for a visa, a list of consulates around the world can be found on the website of the South African Department of Foreign Affairs here.

Travelling with children: Unabridged birth certificates

New regulations, introduce by the South Africa Department of Home Affairs from 1 June 2015, specify that all visitors traveling with minors (children under 18 years) to have in their possession various documentation pertaining to the child/children and these include an unabridged birth certificate. Full details can be found here.

Letters of support for visa applications

The FIATA World Congress 2019 cannot issue visas to attend the Congress but can issue a Visa Support Letter to assist with your visa application. Please note that Visa Support Letters will only be issued electronically upon confirmation of registration and after full payment for registration fees and accommodation has been received.

Inoculations and vaccinations

The only inoculation requirement for visitors is a yellow fever vaccination certificate (International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP)) for those entering South Africa within six days of leaving (or travelling through) a yellow fever zone. You cannot get an inoculation upon arrival and your inoculation certificate must be dated at least ten days prior to your arrival in South Africa. South Africa considers ICVP to be valid for life. Babies of one year old or less are exempt. More information can be found on www.santhnet.co.za.

Malaria is endemic in some part of Mpumalanga, Northern Province, and northern KwaZulu-Natal and it is essential to take precautions if you intend to visit these areas. The bilharzia parasite is present in streams, rivers, lakes and dams in some of the northern and eastern parts of the country, and visitors should avoid contact with the water in these regions. There is no immunisation against bilharzia. The closest malaria and bilharzia regions are approximately 1600 kilometres from Cape Town. Please consult your local doctor / travel clinic for further advice.
